Upstate Waste: Setup Guide

Three short jobs, Owen. Check each box as you go. Your progress saves on this phone.

0 of 0 steps done

1. Put your website on upstatewaste.net

Right now the site lives at a temporary address. This moves it to www.upstatewaste.net. About 10 minutes, best done on a computer while on the phone with JP.

Your email will not be touched. You'll add one new line. Do not edit or delete anything that says MX, TXT, SPF or DKIM, those keep your service@upstatewaste.net email working. Never text your Zoho password to anyone.
  1. 1.On a computer, go to domains.zoho.com and log in with the same Zoho account you use for your email.
  2. 2.Click My Domains. Next to upstatewaste.net, click Manage.
Don't see My Domains or upstatewaste.net? Stop here and tell JP what you see instead.
  3. 3.Click Manage DNS, then Manage Records.
  4. 4.Look through the list. If there's already a line with Hostname www, stop and tell JP before changing it.
  5. 5.Click Add Record and fill it in exactly like this:
    TypeCNAME
    Hostnamewww
    Value / Points toupstate-waste-demo.pages.dev
    TTLleave the default
  6. 6.Click Save. That's the only change. Log out.
  7. 7.Text JP "domain done". It can take up to an hour to start working. JP checks it, then switches your Google, Facebook and Instagram links over to www.upstatewaste.net.

After Owen's text: open www.upstatewaste.net, confirm the site loads with the padlock, then update the links. Optional later: forward plain upstatewaste.net to www.

2. Make you the admin of your Facebook page

JP built facebook.com/upstatewasteny. It's your business, so you should have full control. About 5 minutes on your phone.

  1. 1.Open the Facebook app and tap your own picture to go to your personal profile.
  2. 2.Tap the three dots (...) next to Edit profile, then Copy link (or "Copy profile link").
  3. 3.Paste that link in a text to JP. That's how we find the right Owen.
  4. 4. JP sends you a "full control" invite to the Upstate Waste page. You'll get a Facebook notification.
  5. 5.Open the notification and tap Accept. Can't find it? Tap the menu (☰), then Pages, then Invites, and accept it there.
  6. 6.Check it worked: tap the menu (☰), then your name at the top. You should see Upstate Waste Disposal & Recycling as a page you can switch into.
Instagram @upstatewasteny is connected to this Facebook page, so once you're admin you can post to both from the same place.

3. Make a shared folder for your photos and info

One folder where you drop anything about the business. JP pulls from it to post on Facebook, Instagram, Google and your website. Use whichever you already have.

  1. 1.Google Drive (Drive app, tap +, then Folder) or Dropbox (Dropbox app, tap +, then Create folder). Name it Upstate Waste Marketing.
  2. 2.Share it: tap the folder's three dots, then Share. Add jhl0670@gmail.com and set it to Editor (Drive) or Can edit (Dropbox).
  3. 3.Make these folders inside it: Photos, Videos, Logo, Info.
  4. 4.Dump everything in: photos, videos, logo files, flyers, business cards, price sheets, nice texts or reviews from customers (screenshots are fine). Messy is OK, JP sorts it.
  5. 5.Text JP "folder shared".

Photo checklist

Start with the red ones. Real job photos get more calls than anything else. Shoot in daylight and take each one twice: once sideways, once up and down.

  1. Tires being loaded at a shop: you or the crew loading the trailer Top priority
  2. A full trailer of tires, ready to haul away Top priority
  3. Before and after of a junk removal job (garage, basement, yard), same angle both times Top priority
  4. You with the truck, smiling, logo visible. Goes on Google and the About section Top priority
  5. Demolition: before, during, and the cleaned-up site after Next
  6. Short videos, 10 to 30 seconds, held up and down: loading tires, a junk haul, a demo Next
  7. Truck and trailer from the other side and from the back Next
  8. Original logo files from whoever designed it (any PDF, AI, SVG or large PNG) When you can
  9. Equipment and crew at work (gloves, dumpster, dolly) When you can
Quick rules: no customer license plates, house numbers or faces without asking. Ask shop owners before showing their shop name. Keep insurance and permit papers out of this folder unless JP asks; text him the numbers instead.
